Hey all,

Well after always fighting with the Mrs over who gets to drive the Liberty GT, I've decided to concede and let her drive it full time on the proviso I got a car of MY choice within our budget ($15k outlay max). So I went back to my Mitsubishi roots and have this on the way from Japan:

1998 Mitsubishi Legnum VR-4 Type S
6A13TT 2.5 litre twin turbo V6
5 speed tiptronic
54,000km (with books, AA certified)
Trigger Mauve
Factory option Recaro seats
Factory option Momo Wheel

AND it comes with a nice little mod list by the previous owner in Japan which consists of:
  • Cusco front/rear strut bars
  • Cusco rear sway bar
  • EVO V Brembos
  • EVO V Wheels
  • Lowered Springs
  • 3" exhaust
  • Koyo Radiator
  • Koyo Stainless Radiator Overflow Bottle
  • Cusco FMIC Hard Pipe Kit
  • HKS Mushroom Pod (to go ASAP)
  • Oil catch can
  • Blitz boost guage
  • Blitz Dual DC Turbo Timer
  • Blitz Dual SBC (EBC)
  • Defi(?) style A pillar gauges
  • Super VR4 Shifter (in addition to factory recaro/momo combo)
  • Aluminium pedals

Seems the owner was a Blitz / Cusco fan!

It will make a nice mix of daily driver / weekend warrior and I'm VERY much anxious in the wait. It should be on the road in around 5-6 weeks with any luck! :)

Here are some pics:

Nice!!! I only found out about the Legnum after I bought the Lib. But had my budget been lower, I would have DEF got one. Either that or a Stagea. I loves me a good turbo 4WD wagon

I love the Legnum/Galant VR4. The front is soooo aggressive looking :)

At the moment the expected landed/complied/registered cost should be around $13,000. There may be a few additional costs at the docks if it needs cleaning prior to customs clearance etc but it wont be much. To buy the same car locally you'd be looking $15-16k+ with all the options/mods this car has.

I had a Legnum prior to getting the Liberty - Liberty was an "upgrade" but wife keeps taking the car as she keeps saying "why do YOU get the new car?" I was sick of the arguments said, "fine you drive the liberty and i'll get another Legnum" to which she agreed.

In a comparison of the 2, the Legnum is better off the line as with 2.5L V6 with twin TD03 turbos (tiny!) the off the line response is magic! however they do tend to run out of breath a little over about 6,500rpm (7250 redline) BUT the response is better for hills/street driving.

In stock form the legnum has 206kw @ fly on 7psi, but with the modifications this car has (exhaust, I/C, boost control) on around 12psi, 185-190kw at the wheels is not uncommon. Also the ECU is flashable by open source also, so a remap will only cost me $600 at the local Mitsubishi specialist :D

LOL Can anyone offer their translation services here? Would like to know the date/kms services were done at and any comments to items requiring attention?

Nice work with the Legnum... tough cars!!

Love the R34 Stagea... Such an awesome car and I was sorely tempted when I bought the lib to pick up a 260RS and change the front over myself... but... too old and too hard got in the way!

OH OH! I love that Stagea :D Id love one of them and do the R34 front end swap. Seen so many running around these days and just love watching them cruise along. Even with them being a wagon. Wonder what a Stagea would look like chopped and made into a ute :O. *considers idea*
