K2 Gear Spec-Neo Exhaust

Postby Arith » Thu Oct 02, 2008 1:16 am

The Blitz Carbon Intake Kit was a horrible horrible mod. Sure, it was a great upgrade in terms of opening up the engine's breathing, but it now became the noisiest part of the car. Give it a bit of stick, and all you can hear is the intake. After hearing my car from the outside, a friend of mine asked whether I would eventually upgrade the exhaust soon.

I'm still not a big fan of the canons nor a large single tip, but in order to get the exhaust up to task, compromises had to be made. So sticking to the K2 Gear brand, I ended up getting the K2 Gear Spec-Neo exhaust (thanks Phat). I said bye bye to a classy look and bid hello a more aggressive look with a single large tip and smaller straight through mufflers. Quality was again top notch as with any K2 Gear product.

The system was louder than the quad tipped Spec-Neo Dual, but sound levels were still kept in line due to the large muffler at the centre. But after hearing Pete's (blacknwhite) setup of Hitech, Phat centre and dump pipes, I still think the HiTech's sound closer to the boxer burble than anything else on the market. Damn you, Pete! :glare:

Otherwise performance, surprisingly, was improved with quicker response and smoother mid range power.

Don't you already have the STi quads? :D

But yeah, still evaluating these. If they turn out good, I'll try to convert the tips to quads if possible and sell the other K2 Gear Spec-Neo Dual. However there's already a queue of 2 people ahead of you for them. :D

Jim I liked the looks of the dual tips better but if performance and rumble wins over looks then your on a winner. K2 gear is porn!

Sounds like your old quads are sold even before they have even cooled down. Any feedback on sound differences, performance, etc between the two set ups??

Those new cans sound great mate!

When you ripped off last night I was very impressed :D

Personally prefer the look of your K2 quads, but the note these new ones produce is a lot cleaner & nicer IMO :D

Jim Jim Jim.... you need to make up your mind...

In regards to the Blitz suction kit, no one twisted you arm to get them, eventhough I did mention that they were on the tad noisy side...

Or maybe you should just take it easy on the throttle... :D

Haha. Thanks Jas. But as long as everyone that's bolted on can easily be unbolted, I guess I'll always be trying the newest thing just to satisfy my curiousity. I'm slowly putting up with the noise from the Blitz, but I guess it doesn't hurt to mask up the noise with an even louder noise (that doesn't sound like the car is out of breathe). :D

Me? Easy on the throttle? On when the men and women in blue are around. Otherwise I pretend I'm being chased by drug dealers. :D

Looks good!

Whats them hose clamp like looking things at the end of the tail pipes (between the tail pipe and muffler canister)?

Ahh, K2 Gear isn't just practical, but also smart. The tips, just like the tips from the previous quad tips, can be extended out. So you can make the tips go under the bumper for a more stealth look, or extend beyond the bumper for a more pronounced look.

Those clamps are fasteners to hold the tips in place once one decides what length you want to run them. This also means instead of having another length piping for the wagon, you can just use the same muffler from the sedan, and just extend the tip for the extra length of the wagon.

That I do. I am probably not looking at buying them, like you said, I already have the STi quads.

I've uploaded a short clip of the new K2's if anyone is interested. This is from Day 2, so they should be a bit deeper now after a week of settling in.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0367xPDY4dY

I've also updated the Liberty Exhaust Clips section in the Post Your Mods section.

Check out Pete's (blacknwhite) HiTech exhaust before after Phat's dump pipe & custom 3" center pipe. Damn, it sounds tough and mean!

After

Matt, sorry my son. Your video file got corrupted so I need to re-record your N1's.
