Haltech Miniceptor

Just wondering if anyone has used one, and if so, have you found out if there are any differences between this and the Interceptor?

From my understanding, both are the same except for price (cheaper!), size and that the miniceptor isn't waterproof (no issue if mounted inside car).

Here is a responce i got from Haltech re the differences...

The main difference between the Interceptor and the Interceptor Platinum is the Interceptor is a full water proof version so you will be able to mount the ECU in the engine bay if need be. The Interceptor Platinum is in an aluminum case so this ECU is not water proof. Both ECUS’ use the same tuning software which can be downloaded from the Haltech website.

I found this part of the responce very interesting, especially given the amount of guys that already have it...

We have not supported the Interceptor on a 2008 Subaru at this point.

I think most guys who have it are 2004-2007, so I wonder if they mean they will support up to 2007, but not fully tested and certified for 2008. Even though it may be the exact same ECU (although I highly doubt it), they can't guarantee fully compatibility for 2008 until.

Why would you go for a piggy back ECU over a retune of the standard ECU..

I rant a LINK ECU in my forester, and loved it (once I had sorted out the cold start) I just fail to see the benefit of Piggy Backs

the only ecu reflash is the ecutek for 2k, not really a custom tune, from what i keep hearing from tuners is that they can only offer piggy back solutions for 07 08 ecu's, also in doing this you get a custom tune for alot less then the ecutek. Another good point if installed with a PnP loom its a direct plug and play solution, only drama is that these looms a yet to be made.

There is at least two garage's doing custom tunes in WA.. One of htem is ECUTEK the other is using OPEN ECU, and has done work on at least one '07 that I know of.. (and they only charge $1000 )

hehe.. sure are.. and yes it is a sweet road trip, I did BrisVegas to Perth a couple of years back..

Talk to Phat mate. He's got a contact that tunes using Open ECU. You should know by now the Phat man knows all!

From my understand (& I could be wrong) is that the Open ECU software is free. So all your really paying for is the Dyno time.

ECUtek, which I'm currently running, is around the 2k mark, but that would be with a custom tune (Give or take a few hundred bucks). From what I can gather, the ECUtek is more expensive due to the fact is a licensed style software product. Seeing as MRT are the primary distributors for it... Well, I think you can put 2 & 2 together to understand their fairly high price.

Have seen a few articles where they compare both products & they rate them the same (More or less). In the end it all comes down to the turner in my opinion & in Sydney, there are a lot of tyre kickers around.

of course i did ..............he was the first point of call
but nothing can be done with the stock sti ecu

1 07 you say I asked about 3mnths ago and they had no plans to do the 07's I hope thats changed

I know ASG and the brains behind Verso (open ecu tuning) they use. Can BUS ecu's have not been sorted by them...yet but I believe it will happen sooner than later.
