McIntosh Stereo Upgrade

Spent about $135, getting the rear parcel shelf of my sedan sound deadened with Dynamat, to give the standard subwoofer a decent mounting platform, without vibration.

Made a huge difference... Do it!

Yeah, the Lib's about two inches wider than my MG. I clipped exactly the same clone on my second run too

(I won the "non-MG" class though

This is exactly what i need, the sub on the shelf is vibrating and its giving me the shits. Do you just buy the material and fit it yourself?

Do you have pics of the sound deadening, where you deadened it? Curious to know where 'works' the best.

Its not the sub itself! Have u checked? Its actually the rear brake light vibrating!

Complained to Subaru ages ago and they couldnt identify the prob. I went home and found out myself.

Oh really? I haven't actually looked into it, just when i drive i hear it vibrating at the back but i'm too lazy to check it out when i get home. :oops:

Haven't got pics, didn't do it myself... paid a car stereo place to do a proper job!

I don't know about the brake light, but there is no hint of the vibration now and the sub performs better, now that it has a more solid base. It has made a big difference.

I believe the main problem was the shelf lining vibrating against the metal structure. That was my diagnosis anyway, and I hate to say it, but - I was right!

Is anyone able to post a quick pic of this Dynamat, I wouldn't mind getting it done if it makes the bass sound better in the car....

Problem I find with the Mcintosh sub setup is that it's not lowpassed and often it just sounds muddy. Also because it's a free-to-air sub, it lacks the punch of having a sub in a sealed box.

having said that - with your Dynamat, was it applied to the underside of the parcel shelf, i.e. it's visible when you look inside the boot? I'm thinking of getting some and doing it... hehehe

btw. Stinger Roadkill is better than Dynamat, but it's messier to work with and also I think costs more...
