Hey, to each their own!

Actually I have a spare factory grille from a MY07, and I'm looking to paint the chrome arrow and the surrounding trim body colour so that only the centre emblem is in focus.

I've always like that slanted arrow look but found there was a bit too much chrome for my liking.

sorry have to agree, I prefer the factory, I mean, I dont mind the honeycombe look, but think the chrome goes with the other chrome parts....

Don't try too hard or else you'll crack the badge. Stupid thing is glued on instead of fastened with a screw. Guess Subaru wanted to make it a one time only use.

You should see 2 silver circles at either end behind the grille where the badge is. When I removed mine, I took a thin screwdriver and pushed one side out at a time. Luckily the badge was intact when it finally came out. Had to use glue to fasten it to the new grille though.

what type of glue - hard brittle, or not fully set stuff? I have tried to winkle it off with a putty knife under the edges and its moved a tiny bit, but scared of breaking it - would look bad on day 2 @ 100kms. SWMBO would not be pleased....
how small a driver - 3mm end in beside the silver tangs? What sort of glue did you refit it with?

Sorry, not glue. More of double sided foam. Have you ever installed new badges or letters (ie- LEGACY)? Same type of double sided thin foam tape.

But yeah, don't attack it from the front edges. It'll break for sure. Try to dislodge it from the back by pushing at those circles (they are part of the badge). But just a small enough screwdriver or even metal stick to fit through that hole so that the badge moves.

As for gluing it back on, just any sort of contact cement will do (something waterproof). If you don't want anything permanent, perhaps even some silicone glue?

Hair dryer might help with getting it off too, thats what i used in addition to ariths screwdriver/metal stick to poke it through trick.

Didnt need to touch the front of the badge using this method.

Thanks guys, helps a lot to know whats under there. Will get some heat and drivers on it tonight. I was also thinking silicon would do the trick, and I have some handy.
Curiously the original grille only had 3 of 4 screws holding the chrome cross piece to the body, and the new honeycomb also had only 3 of 4 screws fitted on the centre piece behind the badge....is there a screw shortage somewhere?

have a look at the grill you are putting on to understand how much of a lip you have to actually lever the badge off..

its bloody big and you need to slowly but surely wedge the flathead screwdriver in further each time ...

it takes some wrist strength to wedge it off...

i used silicone to re-stick and no problems there.
