The brake lights work the same, so it doesn't matter if that is the case. WHen I step on te brakes both of them are full bright; when I'm not on the brakes, then only the top one is on dim.

lol i didnt even relise this thread was 2 years old. well i modded my tail lights this way yesterday. but when i went to wire them up there was a spare white wire plugged into the brake light wire clipped onto the brake light but the other end was cut and tapped over. it was the same on both sides for left and right tail lights. is this just a spare wire that subaru forgot to wire up or has the previous owner of my car fiddled with it?
