Welcome to phpBB3

Postby Ric » Tue Jun 09, 2009 10:09 pm

Welcome back.

I'm sure there will be a few hiccups in this jump to the latest version of phpBB.
The most immediate problem you will notice is that some of the avatars look distorted.
Any which were larger than the maximum of 150 wide by 200 high will now look stretched or compressed. Please just setup yours again to correct this.
I'll do a few "how to's" over the next few days on how to attach photos to posts etc.

Note, I'm posting this message while the board is still off-line. I can't move it to the normal address until the final conversion step is complete, which is re-building the search indexes. (There's a lot of Mano's posts for it to scan through yet... ;))

Profiles are edited using the "User Control Panel" link up in the header bar (just below "Board index").

Immediate changes you will notice are:
  • Profiles are now displayed to the right of messages.
  • Clicking on links posted in messages does NOT open a new window. Hold down the shift key as you click if you want to open a new window (and keep the message open).
  • Messages can now be "saved to draft" for further editing before you post them in public. Make sure you click on "Submit", not "Save to draft" when you want the message you just typed in to be posted.
  • The board will remember which topics you have read, even after you log out and back in again.
  • There is a new field in your profile for listing what car you drive. If you enter something, it is displayed in your profile.

Looking good Ric!

Just a quick FYI to other members:

If you preferred the previous visual layout, you can change back to it in your user control panel under the board preferences (my board style) tab.

It let you focus on the message, and just glance over to the right of you want to see who posted it (particularly useful on skinny monitors ;))

I'm a little over the shirts though, time for a new forum design banner thingy perhaps? By over I mean a little tired of looking at them, I'm still all for the selling and purchase of forum gear! I have 2 shirts myself =)

+1

That's not a bad idea Vina. New phpBB3, new banner?

Hey Ric, sometimes when I reply to a post, the BBCode is turned off on the right hand side, so the [quote] doesn't work and neither does the smiley faces. Is there a way to turn it back on within the editing? By default BBCode is on, but on some post replies it gets switched off. Weird.

It should always be on. See if there's any pattern to it (i.e. which forum it's in, etc.)
