New test forum up

Postby Ric » Sat Jan 05, 2008 3:09 pm

I've set up a test phpBB3 forum, and imported the data from this forum to it.
Have a play, put don't use it for regular posts, as the whole lot will be purged when we do shift over.

I haven't done any graphics or colour tweaking yet, it's exactly how phpBB3 comes "out of the box".

Have a play, and make and comments/suggestions before we move. This way, we can iron out any initial problems before doing the "big switch" :)

One big difference is, it now supports file uploads (although I'm not sure if I've enabled it properly yet), and we can have forums within forums to any number of levels (so will probably add state based forums within the "Gatherings" forum...)

Browse to http://liberty.asn.au/phpbb3/index.php

Here's a quick rundown on the differences between phpBB2 and phpBB3. http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/

Can someone please reply to this thread. The current forum has issues with email notification of replies (emails are delayed) so I would like to know whether phpBB3 fixes that.

Or is that a forum configuration issue?

I suspect that is the web host (Godaddy.com) throttling how many messages their shared hosting sends.
I'll try setting it to use a seperate SMTP server I have access to in the near future.

I like the new one... kinda, maybe cause it is new.

Initial thoughts are it is alot busier then our current one. Alot more to look at and attracts from the main subjects. This may change in time as ppl get used to the layout abit more.

From an admin perspective is it easier to maintain?

Avatar's are now on the other side of the page, kinda cool and different.

Also noticed now the Avatars get to be a much larger size then the current one. Is that right Ric?

It has a hell of a lot more control built into it.
Moving the avatars and usernames to the right was a deliberate design decision, to move what you are mainly interested in to the left.

I haven't even looked what avatar limits it has applied yet. :)

Edit: avatars are 150 wide by 200 high, max size 10,000 bytes, the same as here.

Funny Feature :)

Manage Friends or Foes (Within User Control Panel - Friends & Foes TAB)

Foes are users which will be ignored by default. Posts by these users will not be fully visible. Personal messages from foes are still permitted. Please note that you cannot ignore moderators or administrators.

Tangles, u on my list already... LOL!

Looks good.
Does anyone have a collection of smileys that we can use in addition to the old ones?

as far as format goes, i kinda liked it as is.
my friend that i send links to occasionally thinks it's really simple to use as is?
