I've had a gutful of keyboard warriors who use this board to denigrate other users, make fun of people, or pick fights.

I'd like to remind you all of some home truths.

This board costs me time and money to run. There's no banner ads to generate revenue, and the "vendors" do not pay me anything.
I run this board for the fun of it.
I'm not having fun right now.

I'd like you all to think long and hard about what you'd do if I turned this board off tomorrow.
i.e. no access to previous topics, and no PMs.

I'd hate to do that, but it's a distinct possibility if things don't improve.

For the time being, here's a few guidelines:
  • If someone annoys/insults/threatens you, do NOT retaliate in the topic. Use the "Report" button to report the post. Image
(You can also report a PM message. Reporting it allows me to read it, and proves that the sender wrote it.)
  • Making a physical threat against another member will earn you an instant ban!

ric, i agree that the forum is getting very frustrating , there are the odd fools who take things too far and i ask that you ban these people very quickly in the future to ensure we get things back on track.
there will always be a difference of opinon but some dont know when to stop.

you do a great job in maintaining the site and i truely hope the frustration doesnt make you make your threat a reality.

Here here!

I'd also like to introduce people to the Ignore User function of this board.
Simply click on the User Control Panel, go to Friends or Foes and add into the Foes column the user names of those people you don't want to read any more.
Has made my browseing experience a much shorter yet calmer one.

Ric,

There are a couple of other fora I am on and, every now and then, they ask for donations - no pressure no fuss and no compulsion, it's purely voluntary but they each end up with more money than they need such that they shut down the facility to take money - then they get people asking how can they donate more....

I enjoy the company here and the information I get (and sometimes give) and I'd be more than happy to drop some money your way to help pay for its upkeep.

The other guys do it all through Paypal.

I know it won't stop the abuse but it might make it easier to handle.

cheers,

bj

We've offered to donate in the past but Ric wouldn't accept seeing as the cost was not hugely expensive. Ric's time in having to sort out disputes on the forum is probably worth more than him paying for the site hosting etc.

Thanks Jim. That is spot on. It's not a huge amount of money, I'm mainly worried about having to waste time sorting out petty disputes.
Don't take that as a reason to NOT use the REPORT button though...

We need a Ric appreciation day! :D

It's an unfortunate fact that not everyone on here realises the amount of time you put into maintaining this forum. But also that you pay for it out of your own pocket without any requests for donations and membership fees. Some people just take free membership for granted.

We should implement some sort of x3 strikes rule. :banned: When people start using the 'Report' function more, x3 reports against a user within a certain time period gets them banned or revoked membership.

PS - Can we use the 'Report' function against users who lack proper grammar, capitalisation, and punctuality. My brain hurts trying to decifer these cryptic run-on sentences with no stop or start from one sentence to another. :?

Maybe we should pay Ric per basis of dispute resolution, like the Ombudsman or the ACCC :)

Sad to see this forum come to this stage, one of the main reason I joined this forum was due to the way Ric moderated it, but I guess times change and it’s time to start letting particular members know when they have stepped over the line........ It’s good to see the temporary bans have begun.
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty
